David Hockney
Born in 1937 David Hockney has become the most succesful British artist of his generation. In 1961 whilst a student at The Royal College of Art he won the Guiness Award For Etching and since then has made some of the most exquisite suites of graphic works. more
In 1969 he produced The Grimm's Fairy Tales suite which he considers to be one of his major successes. In 1976 he made the Blue Guitar suite which were inspired by the poem 'The Man With The Blue Guitar' by Wallace Stevens who had himself been inspired by Picasso's painting 'The Old Guitarist' of 1903. These beautiful coloured etchings are a testimony to David Hockney's skills as a draughtsman and printmaker and the breadth of his imagination.
